Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT)

Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT)

Allergen immunotherapy is a medical treatment offered to allergic patients who suffer from severe allergies that are inadequately controlled by antihistamines, corticosteroids or other symptomatic treatments.

An alternative way to treat allergies without injections is sublingual immunotherapy. In order to boost tolerance to an allergen and reduce symptoms, a patient is administered small doses of an allergen, in tablet or drop form, under the tongue. By the absorption of the allergen through the stomach lining a specific long-term tolerance to the allergen can be induced.
